The Most Efficient Clean Energy Hydrogen Producing Water Electrolyzer

The most efficient water electrolyzer system “Reserve” has been developed by a group of scientists at the Institute of Energy Problems for Chemical Physics (IEPCP). The system allows the most inexpensive and a cost effective method in the production of hydrogen and for generation of clean energy. This technology promises a wide range of commercial and industrial applications for hydrogen production which can be used as a clean fuel in fuel cells, automobiles, power generation and water demineralization systems.

The project has been utilizing the experience and high qualification of scientists and engineers who have expert knowledge in the area of chemical physics (chemical laser, rocket fuel, chemical weapon and etc). The Institute has an experimental center in Chernogolovka which is designed for work with hydrogen. The working mockup of the high efficient electrolyzer (titled “Reserve”) is built there. It uses the water of 12 bars and operates at temperatures of 120 C. A new advanced electrolyzer is also possible. It will use higher thermodynamic parameters of water and steam up to 150 bars or even supercritical pressure, which are greatly superior and more efficient then all currently known technologies in the World.

Below are the “Reserve” electrolyzer parameters in comparison with those currently operating ones.

Efficiency of the “Reserve” electrolyzer is about 72.0% (HHR), which is the best performance worldwide, and there is still potential for efficiency improvement. The increased pressure and temperature in combination with the catalytic electrodes make it possible to develop a highly efficient hydrogen production system for generation of clean energy. This technology promises a wide range of commercial and industrial applications for hydrogen production which can be used as a clean fuel in fuel cells, automobiles, power generation and water demineralization systems.
